Deep in the woods of a little mountain town called Mentone, there is a quaint little cottage known as “Hitherside”.   Hitherside was completed in late 2016 and we welcomed our first guests in 2017. The cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath and is secluded and private, surrounded by 4 wooded acres. We purchased the 2.5 neighboring acres in 2019.  She is only 1 mile from the center of town, and conveniently located near all the natural beauty that Mentone and the surrounding area have to offer:  breathtaking Desoto falls, Little River Canyon, Desoto State Park, The Sallie Howard “Church of the Rock”,  Cloudland State Park and other local attractions.   Drive, walk or ride your bike to the scenic Brow Park and Downtown Mentone.   Get lunch to-go at one of the local cafes and picnic at the Falls.

Currently ( March 25, 2020)  Little River Canyon, Desoto Falls, Desoto State Park and Cloudland state park are OPEN.  The trails, overlooks and roads in the parks are OPEN. The Visitors centers and restroom facilities are closed.  At this time the Zipline at Desoto State Park is open.  We encourage people to responsibly get out, unless they are under a mandatory lockdown, and enjoy the trails while following CDC guidelines which are stated on the Park FB pages. As per CDC guidelines, the restaurants are operational and carryout and curbside delivery is available.  Mentone Market, Helenas, Wildflower, RIb shak, The Lunch Box at Neena's Produce and many restaurants in Fort Payne are open for carry-out - those include The Spot, Fontana's and the Strand.  The shops in Mentone are mostly closed due to the fact that they are so small but one great little Shop "Rocky Top Pottery" is OPEN!  Unique hand made pottery items.  If you like "antiquing" Daves Antiques in Hammondville, just down the Mountain is open. The good news is you can still enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the parks in our area.  After a day of hiking coming back to the cottage and relax in the hot tub.  Watch the deer congregate in the back yard, relax with a bottle of wine and just "chill".  Reconnect with your partner, your children, your friend. Just be...

“A slice of heaven on lookout mountain”

"It was a glorious stay and a fantastic getaway. Claudia provided more than we expected including a picnic basket, flipflops, games, movies, coffee, snacks and even marshmallows for the firepit. The place is immaculate and as comfortable as home. Hot tub was perfect. The cottage is secluded (other homes a couple of acres away but cant see them due to woods). Less than a mile away from Brow Park which has spectacular mountain views."
