Visiting and "Wanderlusting" in Mentone, Alabama

Time keeps on ticking...

Much has happerned since my last post.  Plans have gone awry for our next project and it’s all going much s-l-o-w-e-r then what I had anticipated. But the tribulations have given me a chance to get to know the nooks and crannies, and every welded bolt on our caboose. The work has been like painstaking plastic surgery.  Each “specialist” completes their work, and we are seeing the gradual transformation of a true beauty.  We said “goodbye” to some of the workers but there is an everlasting signature of their labor that will always be part of the “renovation”.  We’ve ( my husband and I) made some special friendships that will last a lifetime.  We’ve hated this project and loved this project.  Mostly hated it but she keeps calling us back, sucking us into her history and her drama.  The blazing red of hell and the “warning” yellow taunt us and test us daily.  This metal box was welded together with sweat and grit and the precision that would make her “railroad ready” for decades.  Now with battle scars, the fight is real to bring her back to the beauty she was…

“She wore her scars as her best attire,  a stunning dress made of hellfire”…
